Staff Picks - April 25, 2023

It's Tuesday and you know what that means: we're back with a fresh edition of Staff Picks. This week we're highlighting three iconic videos from the OG Glass. Check them out below and let us know what you think on Twitter.

Xcelencia - El Party

Original Release: Wednesday, July 6, 2022
As a huge fan of Latin music, it’s awesome to see reggaeton represented in web3 music. El Party’s plainspoken lyrics layered over minimal synths and powerful drums create a feeling of immersion without being overwhelming. The track inspires that feeling of being on the dancefloor during a night out, surrounded by friends, strangers, and potential romances. The video takes this one step further. Diffused lights and a heavy emphasis on silhouettes and shadows capture the feeling of leaving a party. Dazed and exhausted, but stimulated by the afterglow of a night for the books, El Party leaves you asking the same question as X: “where to next?"

BRONXLYN - JAYPROB X ROCKY SNYDA

Original Release: Tuesday, January 11, 2022
My favorite part about FUTRxLGND is that you can feel their energy through everything they do—ESPECIALLY their music videos. Bronxlyn feels like a night out, not only with Jay and Rocky, but with their whole gang. The track is an infectious homage to house music, lovingly referred to as “House Drill,'' that has experienced multiple viral runs on TikTok and other platforms, giving the duo a level of local fame that many aspire to but few achieve. Their success up to this point, however, is not a result of luck or coincidence. JayProb and Rocky Snyda are masters of community building, capturing culture in an authentic and unique way on camera and in real life. Get familiar with the gang. Welcome to Bronxlyn.

Daniel Allan - Overstimulated Short Film

Original Release: Friday, January 21, 2022
Through a combination of bright colors, dazzling visual effects, energetic dance numbers, and  immaculate vibes, Daniel Allen paints a beautiful collage of his EP Overstimulated in this breathtaking short film. And if you haven’t heard the EP yet,  no worries - watching this film is enough to convince you to go do so. What I love about the film is that it does what most music videos often fail to do - create a visual world and story around the music. Daniel’s EP alone is a fantastic audio journey by itself, but when combined with the film, it’s elevated to a new level. Symbolic set pieces, repetitive motifs, and cohesive transitions between songs transcend this video from just a film to an experience. It’s a timeless gem I come back to again and again, and a defining moment we’ll look back on as Daniel Allen takes off.
